Candice Marie Carson focuses her practice on complex Chapter 11 reorganizations and out-of-court restructuring matters. She has represented debtors, creditors, minority interest owners, and purchasers, guiding those she represents through each phase of the reorganization process. Her work spans a wide range of industries, including automotive, airline, healthcare, retail, and the oil and gas sectors. Before joining Vartabedian Hester & Haynes, Candice practiced at both large international and regional law firms, gaining broad experience in high-stakes restructuring matters.

Candice’s professional accomplishments have earned her recognition among Best Lawyers in America’s annual Ones to Watch list in the areas of Bankruptcy & Creditor Debtor Rights and Insolvency & Reorganization Law. She is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. In addition to her client work, she contributes to industry publications, having co-authored articles in the Journal of Corporate Renewal and Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law.

Representative Experience
  • Represented debtors in several complex chapter 11 cases including, among others, The Stayton at Museum Way, Waypoint Leasing Ireland Limited, CHC Group Ltd., Fieldwood Energy LLC, Paragon Offshore PLC, and General Motors Corporation.
  • Represented creditors in a variety of restructuring matters both in and out of court, including, among others, Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, ALACAP Investors LLC, EastGroup Properties L.P., and Solventum Corporation. 
  • Represented the acquirers of The Stayton at Museum Way and co-led its subsequent pre-arranged bankruptcy filing to restructure the outstanding debt.
  • Assisted minority investor in navigating a bankruptcy initiated by the majority owner.
  • Assisted corporate creditors in several bankruptcy filings initiated by customers, including seeking payment of administrative expense claims and settling preference actions. 
  • Advised corporate decision makers, including management and board members, as applicable, on strategy related to the restructuring, including, among other things, in connection with sales of the corporate enterprise, entry into postpetition financing, settlement of claims of prepetition creditors, employee issues, and fiduciary duty issues.
  • Advised clients on proposed out of court mergers and acquisitions with potentially insolvent or near insolvent counter-parties.
